Under-bed storage without the guesswork
The useful space beneath a bed is smaller than it first appears. Side rails, centre legs and uneven flooring can turn a promising storage box into something you cannot reach.

Find the narrowest entry point
Measure from the floor to the lowest part of the rail that a box must pass beneath. Then measure the clear width between legs and the depth available before meeting a centre support. Do this on the side where you will actually access the box. Include handles, wheels and the lid in the product's total dimensions.
Soft case or rigid box?
A soft zipped case can be a reasonable choice for lightweight bedding or seasonal textiles, especially when you do not need stacking. A rigid container provides a more defined shape and may be easier to wipe, but cannot squeeze around a support. Neither format should be assumed airtight or waterproof unless the manufacturer states that for the particular model.
Test the retrieval space
A box may fit under the bed while remaining impossible to pull out because a nightstand is in the way. Mark its full depth on the floor beside the bed. Make sure you can reach the handle, open the lid or zip, and lift the contents. Two shorter boxes can sometimes be more usable than one deep one, even when they hold less overall.
Store by frequency of use
Use harder-to-reach space for items you need occasionally. Keep frequently used textiles nearer the edge and label the end you can see. Put away clean, fully dry items and follow their care instructions. Do not fill every gap if that prevents inspection or cleaning. Before ordering, try a container already in the home; this reveals awkward access more reliably than measuring alone.
