Choosing hooks for a rental
A hook can free up a useful patch of floor, but 'no drilling' does not mean suitable for every surface. Choose the mounting method only after checking the wall and what you intend to hang.

Identify the surface first
Painted drywall, tile, wallpaper and textured plaster should not be treated as interchangeable. Read the instructions for the exact adhesive product, including restrictions on surface finish and paint condition. If you do not know what is behind the finish or whether the landlord permits attachments, use an existing rail or a freestanding option while you check.
Treat the weight limit literally
Choose for the total item, not its empty weight. A bag may hold a laptop, bottles and books; a coat may be wet. Do not add several hooks' ratings together to invent a combined capacity. The way the load pulls on the hook also matters, so use the product only as directed and avoid hanging valuable or fragile objects where a fall would cause damage.
Follow the full installation sequence
Command's Canadian FAQ gives surface-specific advice and warns about fresh paint. Its product instructions should determine preparation, pressing time, waiting time and removal technique. A tidy installation is not evidence that the adhesive has bonded correctly. Leave access to any removal tab and keep the instructions so you can remove the fitting later.
Consider an over-door alternative
An over-door rack avoids wall adhesive but introduces a different fit problem. Measure the door thickness and the top clearance, and check that it closes normally without force. Some doors should not have hardware added that changes their operation. A few lightweight everyday items may be a better use than turning the door into a fully loaded wardrobe. Start with what the room can accommodate comfortably.
